The small screen will get star-studded over the coming few months.
Bollywood's superstar brigade will once again firmly occupy prominent
space on prominent TV shows.
Amitabh Bachchan is back with his popular franchise Kaun Banega Crorepati and
Salman Khan returns with Bigg Boss soon.
Akshay Kumar and
Shah Rukh Khan are also set for new shows.
After
a disappointing appearance on Sony's serial Yudh, Amitabh Bachchan is
back in his popular avatar as host on the eight season of Kaun Banega
Crorepati that went on air earlier this week.
The small screen
will also notice a clash of the Khans what with shows of Salman and Shah
Rukh Khan likely to coincide in December. Salman Khan takes up his
flight as the mischievous host of Bigg Boss season 8 that starts in
September while bete noire Shah Rukh has been roped in to host Got
Talent World Stage Live, a first-ofits kind global on-ground extension
of the Got Talent franchise premiering in India. Starting September,
Akshay will unleash his dancing skills as the host and mentor of the
dance reality show Dare 2 Dance.
Madhuri Dixit has already
strengthened her position on TV with her charismatic appearance and
dance performances on the celebrity dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. One
of the many high points of the show includes Madhuri showing her famous
dance moves on her old hits. She is the only female celebrity who
commands immense popularity and star power on TV.
Audience
interest and the TVT war reach the pinnacle the moment big stars descend
on tellyland. With an elevated audience expectation, most superstars
will try to sell their show by building a unique image.
Salman, Amitabh, Madhuri
After
the dismal ratings of the Anurag Kashyap-created soap Yudh, Big B is
back in his lovable avatar as the quiz show host of KBC. The role has
lately also created space for him to play a social messenger. The new
season is high on social issues and Bachchan has been discussing various
burning topics ranging from giving importance to girl child to human
trafficking.
His Good Samaritan gestures are appreciated by his
loyal fans. For instance, in the opening episode Big B gifted gold
bangles to a contestant's young daughter who was also named by him on
the set. In the last season, Salman faced severe criticism for being
blatantly biased towards a few contestants hailing from his friend
circle.
The fun might increase this season. Names popping up as
likely contestants for season 8 have included Salman's ex Sangeeta
Bijlani and tainted actor Inder Kumar, who is a friend of the superstar,
and we might just see some fresh controversies.
Shah Rukh Khan in
his trademark style will be seen oozing chutzpah by hosting the
innovative talent show, Got Talent World Stage Live, co-produced by
Simon Cowell. SRK has always made a delightful host with his spontaneity
that connects him instantly to the desi audience.
Akshay Kumar's
earlier small screen stint focused on his action hero image as the host
of Khatron Ke Khiladi. Making perfect use of his dancing skills, this
time Akki will don the role of dance mentor in Dare 2 Dance.
Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh KhanSALMAN KHAN will host season eight of Bigg Boss which premieres this September.
CHARISMA
FACTOR: Salman's packaging as the incorrigible bad boy of Bollywood
works in his favour when he appears as the tough-nut host of the
controversial show. His brashness and political incorrectness while
addressing a bunch of erratic contestants has spiced up the last few
seasons. Salman's art of taking the mickey out of contestants might have
fumed the audience but that has not hindered his remuneration. It is
rumoured that Salman's charges have elevated to as high as
Rs.5
crore per episode this year. The advertisers are ready to pay the
mammoth amount as Salman is a big draw. The actor is in the middle of
shooting several big films but keeping in view the popularity of the
show, he doesn't mind devoting a few weekends in the coming three months
shooting the episodes in Lonavala.
AMITABH BACHCHAN played
the titular role in Yudh and has returned as the host of Kaun Banega
Crorepati in its season 8,which went on air on August 17.
CHARISMA
FACTOR: Big B is back with his grand presence as the friendly anchor
totally at ease while interacting with the common people making an
earnest effort to win on the hot seat. Over the years, the show has
managed to make a remarkable impregnation into the hinterland resulting
in a rise in viewership in the interiors. Bachchan's daily soap Yudh
failed to create a buzz despite being an expensive show based on a novel
plotline. In his avatar as an anchor of the new season of KBC, Big B
will stress on women's empowerment besides narrating his childhood
memories to admirers.
MADHURI DIXIT stars as the judge of the show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7, which is currently on air.
CHARISMA
FACTOR: Madhuri as the judge of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, has elegantly used
her dancing diva image to up her glamour on TV. No episode of the
coveted dance show is ever complete without Madhuri showing her
incredible moves. Madhuri's famous dhak dhak of the '80s still continue
to be a rage among the Indian television audience.
AKSHAY KUMAR returns as judge & mentor of the dance reality show Dare 2 Dance, which goes on air from September 6.
CHARISMA
FACTOR: After showing his daredevilry in Khatron Ke Khiladi and
displaying his culinary skills in the first season of MasterChef India,
Akshay is back on small screen unleashing his dancing expertise. In his
upcoming show, the actor will dare contestants to dance in extreme
conditions. Like Salman, Akshay too has been paid a huge sum as the
remuneration to host the show that has been shot in South Africa. Akshay
admittedly agreed to judge the show because the shows aims at breaking
the regular format of dance shows and tests the endurance of the
contestants.
SHAH RUKH KHAN returns as the host of Got Talent World Stage Live to be held in December 6.
CHARISMA
FACTOR: The hit international format owned by Simon Cowell's Syco
Entertainment will commence in India, with SRK being the face of the
live show. This innovative format of a reality show which will be
recorded live will feature ten India and international artistsdisplaying
their talent. The ticketed show will be a uniquely formatted as Shah
Rukh night where he plans to bring out some rare talent from every
corner of the country.
